Most News Worthy People this Week
One of my many personal Python projects involves sending my bots out to scour the web’s most popular news sites. I am looking to gather, track, and log all kinds of data and turn that data into information…
I’ve discovered that tracking who is in the news – and how often they are mentioned in various stories and posts – gives one a good taste of who are the most news-worthy people at any given time.
Donald Trump Dominates the News
To nobody’s surprise Donald Trump has been number one each week since I first sent my bots out over a year ago. Every single week.
Donald Trump dominates the news cycle in every publication I query; right, left, or mostly unbiased.
While other people tend to come and go from the top 20, Trump remains consistently atop my list. In fact Trump is not only number one in my people list, he is number one overall – among all news topics.
This Weeks 20 Most News Worthy People
- Donald Trump
- Jussie Smollett
- Jeff Bezos
- Bernie Sanders
- Karl Lagerfeld
- Kamala Harris
- Robert Mueller
- Roger Stone
- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
- Vladimir Putin
- Cory Booker
- Alexis Sanchez
- Ralph Northam
- Manny Machado
- Beto O’Rourke
- Nicolás Maduro

- John Roberts
Karl Lagerfeld passed away this week so he gets what I call the RIP effect that occurs often. Bezos has made the top 20 on a few other occasions but never as high as he is this week in the wake of his highly publicized scandal. Alexis Sanchez makes an apperance on this list for the first time for the same reason.
In fact scandal seems to be one of the most effective ways to get on this list. I’m looking at you Ralph Northam. The upside for Gov. Northam is that there is bound to be another political scandal shortly that will take the focus off him.
Speaking of scandals – Jussie Smollett, just wtf dude. You have captured the spotlight and are all the way up at number two on this list. This is not a good thing for you.
I gather my data from a wide variety of news sites, news aggregation sites, blogs, etc. I have tried to balance out political views, topics covered, etc. All of the sites I scrape are English based and the majority are U.S. based.
If you are looking to give your business or organization an edge I can provide you with gathered information about your industry, your users, or even your competitors. Get in touch, lets discuss.
